Nihao, China: A Cultural Extravaganza at the China Cultural Center in Nigeria

On the 21st June 2024, the China Cultural Center in Nigeria hosted “Nihao, China!” , a captivating event to promote tourism exchanges between China and Nigeria. The program, which showcased the country's rich cultural heritage and diverse attractions, was led by Ms. Zhang Yaping. She inaugurated the event by presenting a compelling promotional video about tourism in China, setting an engaging tone for the day's activities.

Following the video presentation, an interactive session with the audience ensued, providing a platform for attendees to engage deeply with the content. Teachers at the center performed a poem titled "My Dear Motherland" in different Chinese dialects, evoking a sense of nostalgia and pride for Chinese culture.

There were five teachers from China Corner respectively introduced five major provinces of China: Guangdong, Jilin, Sichuan, Jiangxi, Jiangsu. Mrs. Linda delivered an insightful presentation on Guangdong Province, highlighting its unique attractions and cultural significance, such as Guangzhou harbour and Yingge Dance. This was followed by a delightful tasting session featuring one of sticky rice food “Zongzi”, arousing everyone's new understanding of Chinese food. Then Jilin Province expertly introduced by Mr. Gabriel James who led us to enjoy a ice and snow festival.

Adding to the festival atmosphere, Mr. Shi Changqiang entertained the audience with a lively dance demonstration, also teaching the audience a few steps. The Sichuan Province, known for its spicy cuisine and beautiful landscapes and lovely panda, was showcased by Mr. Bobby.

A fun and interactive chopstick game, hosted by Mr. Salim, thrilled the audience with prizes awarded to the winning groups, adding a competitive edge to the day's events. Presentations continued with Jiangsu Province by Ms. Princess, followed by an exploration of Jiangxi Province by Mrs. Gloria.

The Capital Voice Choir concluded the presentations with a heartwarming poem, further enriching the cultural experience. The event ended on a high note with a relaxing tea break, allowing attendees to reflect on the day's learning and enjoy the serene ambiance of the center.

The event successfully highlighted the multifaceted allure of China, from south to North, from its culinary delights to its vibrant traditions, leaving attendees with a deeper appreciation for Chinese culture and a curiosity to explore the nation further.
