GDToday food gala held in Singapore

“When I tried Guangdong cuisine for the first time, I found that Guangdong cuisine served as one of the Singaporeans’ favorites. Today’s event focuses on the role of Canton cuisine in bilateral exchanges between Singapore and Guangdong. It’s a new attempt to promote the bilateral relationships between Singapore and China,” said Seng Han Thong, Former Singaporean Member of Parliament, and Former Deputy Chief Editor of Lianhe Zaobao. 

On October 27, an event named ‘When Guangdong Cuisine Meets with Southeast Asian Flavors’ kicked off at Adam Park in Singapore. This event was hosted by GDToday of Nanfang Media Group. 

Officials, overseas Chinese leaders, leading enterprises in the catering industry and media representatives attended the event.

“The first restaurant in Singapore that was rated as Michelin one star level A is a Chinese restaurant, showing that Chinese food enjoys high popularity in Singapore. I hope we can keep renovating and inheriting Chinese cuisine and make more people love it,”said Zhou Jiameng, Vice President of the World Chinese Food Federation and Chairman of Tunk Lok Millennium Pte Ltd.

Chong Tien Siong, Former Chief Editor of Ming Bao, proposed that Singapore and China should develop more in-depth relationships , because Singapore is not only a Belt and Road Initiative partner country but also one of the focuses in the ASEAN. 

“My father is from Malaysia, and my grandparents are from Canton, so I have a lot of exposure to Cantonese food. I recall my grandmother making delicious Cantonese food, yum cha, dim sum, etc. They are amazing cuisine. I hope to spread the joy and enjoy today’s event,” said Zhang Yufu, the representative of Dentons Rodyk.
