华人号:NIGERIA CHINA TIMESThe Energy China-Nigeria Dance Competition Final took place on 5th June 2024 at the China Cultural Center in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. The event was Co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, the China Cultural Center in Nigeria, and the China General Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria (CGCCNIG), and sponsored by China Energy International Group (CEIG) . In attendance were Mr. Li Xuda, Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, Li Baisheng, Managing Director of China Energy International Group Limited, James Sule, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, along with heads of major Chinese companies in Nigeria, contestants, and local music and dance enthusiasts.

Cultural Counsellor Mr Li Xuda highlighted dance as a universal language with the unique ability to transcend political, religious, and cultural boundaries, thereby playing a vital role in multinational cultural exchanges. In his remark he stated, “ As a Cultural Counsellor, I have been working in Nigeria for many years, which helps me know more about its people, history, its culture and so on. In my eyes, Nigeria is a land of rich and colorful cultural heritage. There are over 250 ethnic groups, each of them has its own unique culture. After so many years’ development, now Nigeria is well-known for its festivals, its music, its sculptures, its literature, its film, especially its dance.” He concluded by thanking the organizers.

In his address, Mr Li Baisheng, Managing Director of Energy China Nigeria Ltd., affirmed the company's commitment to fostering economic trade, and cultural exchanges between Nigeria and China, with the aim of “sharing Chinese Harmony and performing Nigeria-China Symphony of friendship with Nigerian people.” He lauded the organizers, judges, participants, and supporters of China-Nigerian cultural exchanges for their dedication and hard work.

Mr. James Sule, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, appreciated the organizers of the event and assured the Chinese Embassy of the Nigerian government’s steadfast support for fostering bilateral cooperation. He emphasized the ministry’s commitment to collaborative projects that showcase the unique narratives of both nations and promote mutual understanding and friendship.
The competition featured captivating dance performances, with Wang Ao securing first place in the Chinese category, followed by Wu Jiacheng in second place, and Huang Lingxia and the Energy China Dance Group in third. In the Nigerian category, Drum Major for Peace took first place, Firmsteps Dance Crew came second, and Adexy Joe and Joseph Uhiene secured third.
Awards were also presented for special achievements, with Sinoma Nigeria Limited winning Best Collaboration, Chi Si Hea receiving Best Creativity, and Ai Leyang and Dong Mei being awarded Best Popularity. Prizes and cash awards were distributed to the winners and participants, celebrating their contributions in the spirit of sportsmanship.
