Ding Junhui is a professional snooker player known for his composed and steady playing style. He excels in strategic thinking, delicate cue control, precise positioning, and tight safety play. He is an Asian Snooker Championship winner. As of 2024, he has made seven career 147 maximum breaks and reached the finals of ranking tournaments 24 times, winning 15 titles. He also claimed the championship at the 2024 World Snooker International Championship.

毛遂自荐的典故，来自于战国末期的一次历史事件。那时候，秦国越发强大，开始逐渐蚕食其他几个国家。当时秦国大军进攻赵国，一口气打到了赵国的都城邯郸，大有要直接征服赵国的意思。

千钧一发之际，赵国平原君受国王的委托，去游说南边的楚国，希望楚国可以出兵，和赵国一起对抗秦国。平原君出使之前，打算挑选二十名能帮得上忙的门客同往。当平原君选出了十九个门客之后，有个名叫毛遂的门客，向平原君自我推荐，希望和平原君同往。平原君起初并不看好毛遂，但毛遂却充满自信，说服了平原君最终同意带他一同前往。

到了楚国，楚王只接见平原君一个人。两人坐在殿上，从早晨谈到中午，还没有结果。毛遂大步从殿外走来，远远便听到他的声音：“出兵的事，非利即害，非害即利，简单而又明白，为何议而不决？”楚王非常恼火，认为此人十分无礼，转头便问问平原君：“此人是谁？”平原君答道：“此人名叫毛遂，乃是我的门客！”楚王喝道：“赶快下去！我和你主人说话，你来干吗？”毛遂见楚王发怒，不但不退下，反而又走上几个台阶。他手按宝剑，说：“如今十步之内，我便可取您性命！”楚王见毛遂那么勇敢，没有再呵斥他，就听毛遂讲话。毛遂晓以利弊，把出兵援赵有利于楚国的道理进行了精准又入木三分的陈述。一番游说过后，楚王心悦诚服，当即答应出手援助赵国一事。很快，楚、魏等国联合出兵支援赵国。秦军见赵国人多势众，只得遗憾撤退。平原君回赵国后，奉毛遂为上宾。他很感叹地说：“毛先生一到，楚王就不敢小看赵国了。”

经此一事，毛遂声名大振，后人多用「毛遂自荐」比喻自己推荐自己，主动要求承担重任。

In the Warring States Period, the State of Qin besieged the capital of the State of Zhao. Duke Pingyuan of Zhao planned to ask the monarch of Chu personally for assistance. He wanted to select a capable man to go with him. A man called Mao Sui volunteered.

Once in the Chu State, the monarch of Chu only met Duke Pingyuan. The two people discussed political issues together. From morning to noon, there was no result. So, Mao Sui strode up the stairs and shouted from afar: "For sending troops, you will either get benefits or get disadvantages. Such a simple and clear question, why do you hesitate for so long?" The monarch of Chu was very annoyed and asked Duke Pingyuan: "Who is this person?" Duke Pingyuan replied: "This person's name is Mao Sui, and he is my political adviser!" Monarch of Chu shouted: "Hurry down! I am talking to your master, why are you here?

Seeing that the monarch of the Monarch of Chu was angry, Mao Sui not only did not leave, but went up a few steps. He pressed his sword and said, "Now within ten steps, I can kill you easily" The monarch of Chu saw Mao Sui was brave, and no longer blamed him, he listened to Mao Sui's speech. Mao Sui made a very incisive analysis of the principle of sending troops to assist Zhao Lichu.

Mao Sui's remarks convinced the monarch of Chu to agree to send troops immediately. Within days, Chu, Wei and other countries jointly dispatched troops to assist Zhao. Qin's army retreated. After Duke Pingyuan returned to Zhao State, he regarded Mao Sui as his senior political advisor. Duke Pingyuan said: "As soon as Mr. Mao arrives, the monarch of the Chu will not dare to underestimate the state of Zhao."

After this incident, Mao Sui became famous. Since then, people often use this idiom means to recommend oneself.
