展览前言 Preface

经度（Longitude）不仅是标示地球表面东西方向的地理坐标，其亦是一个推动东方与西方之间文化、经济、科技与知识不断交流、碰撞与融合的象征。这些跨越经纬的互动塑造独特的文化认同，激发艺术表达，并促使人类在跨越距离的交流中追寻智慧的启迪、精神的丰盈与美的共鸣。

2025年是多个国家与中国建交的重要周年。包括丹麦(75周年)、瑞典(75周年)、泰国(50周年)以及菲律宾(50周年)。作为致力于推动国际艺术交流的平台，北欧当代艺术中心(厦门)以此为契机，携手泰国艺术家群体，共同策划并呈现本次国际艺术展。

展览不仅关注地理与文化的交汇，更希望以艺术为媒介，回应当代全球化背景下的文化互动与多元共存议题，并强调国际文化艺术互动在消除偏见、增进理解与促进共同发展的重要作用。

“LONGTUDE”不仅是一次艺术展览，更是一次关于全球文化流动的探系。它邀请观众在经纬交错中思考，在地理与文化交汇处感知，在不同艺术语言之间发现联系。在各国与中国建交周年这一重要时刻，我们期待通过此次展览，深化国际艺术交流，推动不同文化之间的对话与共生，见证艺术如何成为连结世界的重要桥梁。

Longitude is not only a geographic coordinate marking positions east and west on the Earth’s surface but also a symbol of the flow of culture, economy, technology and knowledge, driving exchanges, encounters, and integration between East and West. These cross-longitude interactions shape unique cultural identities, inspire artistic expression, and encourage humanity to seek wisdom, spiritual enrichment, and a shared sense of beauty through cross-cultural communication. 

The year 2025 marks a significant anniversary of diplomatic relations between several countries and China, including Denmark(75th anniversary), Sweden(75th anniversary), Thailand (50th anniversary), and the Philippines (50th anniversary). As a platform that fosters international artistic exchange, the Nordic Contemporary Art Center (Xiamen) seizes this opportunity to collaborate with a group of Thai artists to curate and present the international exhibition LONGITUDE. This exhibition highlights the intersection of geography and culture. It aims to use art as a medium to engage with contemporary global issues of cultural interaction and coexistence, emphasizing the crucial role of international artistic exchange breaking prejudices, enhancing mutual understanding, and fostering collective progress.

LONGITUDE is more than just an art exhibition is an exploration of global cultural currents. It invites audiences to reflect on intersections of geography and culture, to experience these exchanges firsthand, and to discover connections between different artistic languages. At this pivotal moment, commemorating diplomatic anniversaries between various nations and China, we hope this exhibition will deepen international artistic dialogue, promote cultural exchange and coexistence, and serve as a testament to how art can bridge the world.

项目背景 Background 

本次展览由来自泰国曼谷吞武里大学艺术与应用管理学院的11位泰国艺术家主导，他们将在展览前抵达厦门进行驻地创作，深入互动当地文化，运用在地材料，与社区和人文环境对话与共创。他们的创作将与来自丹麦、瑞典、菲律宾、德国、韩国、法国、美国、中国等国家参展艺术家共同构成多元对话，展现当代艺术在不同经纬度上的共鸣与差异。艺术在此成为超越国界的语言，让不同文化在相互交融中碰撞灵感，激发新的认知和合作的可能性。

This exhibition is led by 11 Thai artists from Bangkokthonburi University, BTU, who will arrive in Xiamen before the exhibition for a residency program, engaging with the local culture, working with locally sourced materials, and creating a dialogue with the community and human environment. Their works will enter into a diverse conversation with participating artists from Denmark, Sweden, the Philippines, Germany, South Korea, France, the United States, and China, showcasing the resonances and contrasts of contemporary artistic practices across different longitudes. Here, art becomes a universal language that transcends borders, allowing diverse cultures to inspire one another, fostering new understandings, and opening possibilities for collaboration.
