Echoes of Min Opera at the Foot of the Pyrenees

In April, the "Refreshing Fujian" Min Style and China Chic Flash Mob Featuring Intangible Cultural Heritage, themed "A Journey of Mountains, Seas, and Songs," was held in Jaca, a historic town in Huesca Province, Spain. The event was organized by the Fujian Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.

Jaca is one of the host venues for the Pyrenean Folklore Festival. The festival, an exchange activity jointly organized by the people on the borders of France and Spain, has evolved over the years into a distinctive platform for cultural and artistic exchanges worldwide.

In 1996, at the invitation of the Pyrenean Folklore Festival organizing committee, a delegation from Fuzhou, primarily composed of artists from the Hongqi Min Opera Troupe of the Fuzhou Min Opera Theater, visited France on behalf of China for the first time. They delivered a total of 93 performances over two months. This year's Min opera performance in Jaca marks a significant step in continuing the nearly 30-year friendly exchanges between Min opera and European folk art.

At a snow-capped mountain viewing platform at an altitude of a thousand meters, the water sleeve dance of Min opera performers created a striking contrast against the pristine white snow. The seven-meter-long water sleeves fluttered gracefully in the mountain breeze, blending strength and softness in a performance that left the audience marveling. The delicacy of Min opera harmonized perfectly with the grandeur of the snowy mountain, painting a captivating cultural tapestry.

At the end of the event, all the performers interacted enthusiastically with the audience, chanting in unison: "Fujian Travel: A Journey of Blessings, Mountains, Seas, and Songs," sending blessings from Fujian to the world.
