Can Europe defend itself against a nuclear-armed Russia?

As the U.S. appears to be reducing its commitment to European defense, national security expert Richard D. Hooker Jr. argues that Europe must prepare to defend itself against a nuclear-armed Russia. Despite spending four times more than Russia on defense, European militaries lack readiness, logistical capabilities, and nuclear deterrence beyond the U.S. umbrella. While countries like Poland and Ukraine may consider developing nuclear capabilities, most European nations remain unprepared for rapid deployment. Hooker emphasizes that improving military mobility, interoperability, conscription, and strategic coordination is crucial for European defense, though these changes will take time.
