杜克大学前招生官迪克逊博士（Dr. Will Dixon）深度解读今年早申录取并提出建议

【华人头条美国南北卡讯】杜克大学（Duke ）今年共收到 6,627 份提前录取申请，比去年增加 6%，创下杜克大学历史上的最高申请。本轮录取率为 12.8%，略低于去年12.9% 的记录。是历史新低。共录取849人，占2025新生人数的49%。

今年是自 2023 年 6 月最高法院裁决推翻大学录取中基于种族的平权行动以来的第二个申请周期。去年的班级种族特征与往年一致，而全国其他学院和大学的种族多样性则有所下降。与前一年相比，黑人学生入学率没有变化，白人和亚裔学生入学率分别下降了 1 个百分点和 6 个百分点。

提前录取的 148 名学生来自卡罗莱纳州，人数与去年几乎相同。去年，该大学推出了针对卡罗莱纳州学生的计划，为家庭收入低于 15 万美元的北卡州和南卡州学生提供全额学费补助。

这里是南方贵族里最会"卷"的学霸基地，让常春藤都眼红的学校！杜克是一所私立研究型大学，原名三一学院。它坐落在北卡罗来纳州的达勒姆，四季分明，气候宜人。学校本科生约6,800人，研究生约9,000人。

杜克的2024年U.S. News全美综合排名第7位，商学院、医学院全美TOP10。2023年录取率仅6%左右，国际学生占比约10%，来自100多个国家。杜克的王牌专业有公共政策、生物医学工程、计算机科学、商科、心理学等等。

除了卡罗莱纳州以外，提前录取的学生中，来自纽约、加利福尼亚、佛罗里达、新泽西和德克萨斯的学生占了绝大多数。根据国籍，大约 7% 的录取学生是国际学生；根据高中就读地，大约 8% 的录取学生是国际学生。在美国以外，来自中国、英国、加拿大、印度和巴西的学生最多。

目前根据各家消息，杜克大学今年在中国大陆录取学生仅9名左右，分布于上海中学国际部，上海市平和外语学校，南京外国语学校，上海外国语大学附属外国语学校等等。

你们中的许多人可能已经从同学、家长和邻居那里听到了许多大学的早期决定（ED）结果。

杜克大学于12月16日星期一晚上7点公布了其ED业绩。对于许多学生来说，这一天标志着一段巨大的喜悦和其他人的失望。

今年杜克大学收到了创纪录的6627份提前决定通知申请。考虑到杜克粗略地承认50%的新生都是早决定，这很容易理解为什么ED在这所大学如此受欢迎。多年来，杜克一直最精英大学之一，早决定的录取率高于常规录取（RD），从而鼓励学生提前申请。

几年来，杜克大学早决定录取的录取率一直徘徊在20%左右。今年的录取率为12.8%，并开始与RD录取率更加接近。很明显，随着ED录取率的下降，录取率正在下降。

比较2023年的ED录取和2024年的ED录取，明显的区别是，杜克大学2023年录取的白人学生比2024年少1%，亚洲学生比2024年少6%。

这是一种趋势吗？现在下结论还为时过早，但我倾向于怀疑是否存在一种趋势或政策来减少学生群体中某些人口群体的数量。然而这是值得关注的事情。

总的来说，杜克大学反映了我们在美国全国范围内看到的一种趋势。顶尖大学的竞争非常激烈，而且随着时间的推移，竞争只会越来越激烈。有趣的是，我们看到许多对一些学生来说被认为是安全的学校，现在在录取方面变得更加竞争激烈。北卡罗莱纳大学就是这样一个例子。

Seasons Greetings Everyone !

Many of you may have been hearing the buzz from schoolmates , parents and neighbors that early decision ( ED) results are in for many  universities.

Of course, Duke University is one such school. Duke released its ED results this past Monday , December 16 at 7pm. For many students, this day

marked a period of great joy and for others disappointment.

This year, Duke University received a record  6627 applications for early decision notification. Considering that Duke admits roughly

fifty percent of its freshman class through early decision it is easy to understand why ED has been so popular at this university. For years Duke has been among

the most transparent and vocal of elite universities in sharing that the rate of admission for early decision is higher than that for Regular Decision (RD) thereby encouraging students to apply early.  

For several years the admission rate for Duke early decision hovered around 20%. This year that rate is  12.8% and is beginning to converge more narrowly  with the RD rate  Clearly, the rate of admission is declining as ED has received

 an ever increasing number of applicants. I think part of this increase in applications stems from pandemic policies that made testing optional which resulted in students applying to Duke

who otherwise would not have done so due to test scores. Duke  policy is that students are not disadvantaged by not submitting tests scores; anecdotal evidence seems to suggest that this is indeed the case. Duke has not disclosed the number of students admitted without test scores.  Nevertheless, I always recommend that my students with high test scores submit their scores during the application process; there is no harm in doing so and it tends to further confirm a strong high school academic record.  

In terms of comparing 2023 ED  results versus 2024 ED results the noticeable difference is that Duke admitted one percent fewer Caucasian students and six percent fewer Asian students in 2023 than 2024. 

Is this a trend ? It’s too early to tell but I tend to doubt that there is a trend or policy to reduce the number of certain demographic groups within the student population. However, it is something to keep an eye on. 

Overall, Duke University reflects a trend that we are seeing all across the nation. Elite Colleges remain very competitive and are only getting more competitive with time. Interestedly, we are seeing many schools that were thought to be safety schools for some students now become much more competitive in admission selection. North Carolina State University is one such example.

What does this portend for future collegians. It means that serious  preparation for college is required  and it should begin as early as possible during high school. Student who are successful in the elite college admissions process have a sense of purpose and understanding in what they need to do to give themselves the best chance for success in the college admissions process. Making adjustments in activities, research direction , course of study all need time for development , exploration and depth.
