Fun and Games with CYOC at the Asian BBQ Festival

On June 29, 2024, people gathered at Rockville Town Center to start a new tradition: The Asian BBQ Festival. This event was not only a celebration of Asian cuisine and culture, but a collision of cultures as people from all races came to try a taste of Asian food.

The Capital Youth Outreach Club (CYOC) played a pivotal part in the festival, by organizing, designing, and running the Kids’ Zone. Before the event, CYOC volunteers put countless hours into deciding the games, rules, and prizes of the events in the Kids’ Zone.

On the day of the festival, over 50 volunteers showed up, eager to help people have an enjoyable time at the festival. There were many games, such as the ring toss, basketball, cornhole, miniature bowling, and bounce house. There were also scrumptious popcorn and cotton candy machines, further contributing to the lively atmosphere.

During the event, Minister of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the United States of America Quan Jing visited CYOC’s main tent. After learning about CYOC’s goal and background, Minister Jing highly praised it. CYOC also gifted a CYOC shirt to Minister Jing, which he happily accepted.

Overall, CYOC’s first ever fundraiser was a major success. Not only did CYOC raise money for future volunteer efforts, but it also left many kids and parents delighted.
